I’m writing this as I listen to one of the biggest rainstorms that has hit Orange County in quite a while. Yet so much has happened in the world of food since my last blog post this past week – especially my first foodventure of 2017! I have tried out a few food delivery apps at work (since the rain has been hindering our ability to really travel around our office space.) Our office has tried out both DoorDash and UberEats – both are all about ride-share drivers picking up and delivering your food. A few weeks ago, we had Bamboo Bistro delivered via DoorDash and then I had the Halal Guys delivered via UberEats (especially since I had a $15 coupon code).
Yet this write-up is going to focus on my first foodventure of the year! “Foodventures” are the name my friends and I dubbed for our food outings together. We try our best to get together and try different restaurants together, whether it is for the restaurant weeks (i.e dineLA and Newport Beach Restaurant Week happening right now), or we try and visit some new openings that are on our list.
Some of the restaurants that I currently have on my list include: Tackle Box OC, Mix Mix Kitchen Bar, Water Grill, Hatch, Vaca.
We discovered that many restaurants in Orange Coounty are actually closed on Mondays. Many of my friends didn’t have to work on Martin Luther King Jr. day, so they met up for happy hour at Bosscat Kitchen and Libations in Newport Beach. I met up with them shortly thereafter and we were in for quite the meal! More in-depth about Bosscat Kitchen & Libations in a future post!
So what constitutes a “foodventure” versus a hangout? Usually, it has to be the group’s first time at a restaurant, or alternately, that we haven’t had a particular meal there (someone may have had brunch there, but may not have had dinner). In this case, my friend Denise had been at Bosscat Kitchen for brunch but hadn’t been there for happy hour or dinner.
This goes along with my 2017 food resolutions to try one new restaurant a month and I hope that there are many more foodventures in the works! Until next week, my food friends!
